mAh (milliampere-hours) is the unit of battery capacity. A battery with a capacity of 2,500 mAh can theoretically deliver 2,500 mA for one hour. For a Companion with a standby current consumption of 8 mA, this translates to a runtime of over 300 hours (approx. 13 days).
