MeshCore repeater planned for the Wilsdruff radio tower starting in April

A new MeshCore repeater is helping to create a self-sufficient wireless network at the Wilsdruff radio tower. The Dresden-based MeshDD network has already made initial progress—but support is still needed until the planned launch in April 2026.

At the historic site of the Wilsdruff Radio Tower, the Dresden-based MeshDD network is working to build a modern MeshCore wireless network. The goal is to create a self-sufficient, solar-powered communication system that operates independently of traditional infrastructure and opens up new possibilities for decentralized networking.

An important first step has already been taken: Thanks to donations from the community, the first of two planned MeshCore nodes has been procured. The system is expected to be fully installed and operational by the time the radio tower monument is inaugurated on April 11, 2026.

The location on the Hühndorfer Höhe offers ideal conditions for the project. Thanks to its elevated location, the MeshCore network can achieve a wide range and serve as a central hub for the region. At the same time, the project symbolically ties into the history of the site—from a once-central transmission site to an open, decentralized network.

However, additional components are still needed for full implementation, including a second MeshCore node and necessary accessories for installation and operation. A total of approximately 800 euros is still required. The organizers are therefore continuing to rely on support from the community to bring the project to fruition on time.
